Your Hair is NOT What Makes You a Woman

Your Hair is NOT What Makes You a Woman

Have you ever found one of those thick, black hairs on your chin or jaw line? Have you ever had acne…after you thought you were way too old to experience such things? And, of course, you know what it’s like to deal with thinning hair. All of these things can make us feel less than beautiful.

A very sweet woman I know suffers from all of these things. And she just recently achieved her 30th birthday. Now, as you can imagine, she struggles with feeling beautiful. When a friend or family member compliments her on how great she looks, her response is, “Yeah, I look pretty good for someone who is half man.” She refuses to be complimented. Her “half-man” mentality keeps her from seeing how wonderful she is.

So this is my comment to her and to all of you: your hair is not what makes you a woman. Here are some things that make you a woman:

-Your ability to bear children. Sure, there are some women who will not have that experience. But many women who are losing their hair are doing so as a result of hormone changes from pregnancy. What is more womanly than sacrificing your body (and yes, maybe your hair) to bear a child?

-Your tenderness. Men can be soft. But in most cases, they don’t have that innate ability to be calm, serene, and nurturing. That is a trait that seems almost exclusively reserved for women. If you have a moment where you don’t feel very feminine, speak a kind word to someone who needs it and you’ll realize what a difference you can make in someone’s life.

-Your sincerity. As women we are often teased for being gossipy or talking too much. But that is what makes us women – the ability to connect. We get to know one another and have amazing opportunities to provide support. Think about your best girlfriend. She would never let you down when you needed her. And you have that ability, too.

-Your delicate nature. I know a few women who enjoy burping, passing gas, and otherwise being crude. But whether you have a great head of hair or less than you would like, you can be a lady. If you’re wondering about your femininity, speak softer, cross your legs, paint your nails, and keep good a good, wholesome conversation going. The room will react accordingly.

Your looks have nothing to do with your role as a woman. It’s your nature that matters. Most of us are going to get those ugly, black hairs on our chin. You may not get any until you’re much, much older, but they will come. However, that doesn’t mean your half man. It means bodies are imperfect.

But women are fantastic!
